Dabbled in poetry and music from a young age. Founding member of the rock band Die Wesies 1993 as rhythm guitarist and lead vocals together with Markus Van der Wald on guitar and vocals and Louis Meintjes on a 1960’s Aria bass made up this motley bunch of school lads. Even though it was a great experience playing with school mates it remained a garage band that only really performed for friends.
Collaboration with various other musicians lead to the creation of a new band Silveretta. Quewin surrendered the guitar to focus on writing and vocals. The band dismembered when new work opportunities winked at Chris who duly moved to Johannesburg to pursue a very successful career. Quewin also managed to obtain his B Com degree during this period with specialisation in Industrial and Organisational Psychology and still applies his trade in the HR arena.
Quewin was approached to lead the vocals for a new hard rock band Driver Down. Quite a departure from the blues undertones of previous bands, this sound was hard, aggressive and industrial in nature. After successfully auditioning for the band, work on the music and sound started with great earnest. Many a great gig was had all over Cape Town and surrounds in the presence of great band members such as Albert Smit (Punkin Head) on bass, Mr. Jack Stone on vocals and guitar, Dr. Naartjie on lead guitar and Mr. PJ Smitsdorff on drums.
After a brief hiatus Quewin was pleasantly surprised to hear that members of the old Silveretta band were jamming and immediately got involved. The band moved to an industrial space in Stikland (Unit Eleven) were the craft was properly honed. Hours of songs were created and a couple of well attended gigs were the result. Now based in things have quickly developed into a sound that is ready to be shared. Big plans to launch the band and take it to the next level is forthcoming.
